Principal humanities, such as literature and art

I was thinking of things more along the lines of history and philosophy.

However, is there a reason to think that withdrawing government funding or even abolishing the faculties altogether would have hurt these fields?

If their state is as bad as in the west, certainly not.

History and philosophy are less obvious cases. Some of the historians whose works I appreciate were college professors. Still, Im not convinced that government funding increased the number of historians or philosophers worthy of notice (even before the culture of political correctness).

Concerning the importance of philosophy do you think that our civilization would be noticeably different if Kant or Schopenhauer has never been born?
