I would expect that if you do unconscious racism test you will get a result that correlates with wanting to secure borders.

Iím sure you realize that expectations are not objective evidence.
Voting democrat correlates with openness to experience and openness to experience leads to less xenophobia.

IQ is correlated with height and East Asians are on average shorter than Europeans. Yet assuming that East Asians have lower IQ would be wrong (and such assumption may be correlated with xenophobia).

We have a natural tendency to think the worst of our political enemies. I certainly have it myself. Have you considered the possibility that this tendency may also have affected your assessment of Republicans or of people who want to limit immigration?

That doesn't mean that it isn't useful to be explicit about expectation.
If I am explicetly about my expectations and you disagree with the expectation we can specify how we disagree. If we are specific about how our expectations differ that allows the issue to be settled with evidence.

When you are not specific with expecations you are more likely to have beliefs because of your own tribal affiliations.

I think you model me very wrong if you think that I'm a Democrat and thus Republicans would be my political enemies.

I might remind me that you wanted to label me as right-wing for my description about the situation in South Africa. In this discussion I don't think it's a huge problem that Trump could Mexicans rapists.

I don't care strongly about the political question of immgration between the US and Mexico. I care strongly about the political question of valuing scientific pluralism. You could say that someone who opposes scientific pluralism is a political enemy of me.
When Theranos lobbies for patients rights to their own informations, you could call them a political ally for me while I don't care that much what Elizabeth Holmes think of the border between US and Mexico.

The US would likely profit from giving every decent programmer who wants to relocate to Silicon Valley a greencard. One decent programmer at our local LW meetup in Berlin would be in the US if he would have gotten a greencard. But there are advantages to not all good programmers being focused in Silicon Valley for other countries. From my perspective it's not that bad that we have more good programmers in Berlin because the US limits immigration.
