After the attack on French and American peacekeepers in Lebanon in 1983, the French and the U.S. governments ordered token retaliatory airstrikes and then withdrew their soldiers from Lebanon. Will the recent attacks in Paris follow a similar scenario?
The objective of the attack is to Western groundtroups into the Syria. That's because the Koran calls for them defeating Western troops at Dabiq. Actually defeating the Western troops will likely be the part of the plan that fails.
I'd guess ISIL's objectives were
1) increased propaganda and get more recruits (check, but they hoped for more)
2) prove there is a cost to the West's pinprick attacks (check)
The French bombing response are still pinpricks - so far.
